Stump grinding in Iver Heath

Stump grinding and removal in Iver Heath

Stump grinding in Iver Heath is priced from the stump, the narrowest route to it and the use planned for the space afterwards. A gate measurement on its own is rarely enough.

Agree the depth and finish

Grinding reduces the visible stump and accessible root flare below the agreed level. It does not normally excavate every root running through the garden. The useful depth depends on whether the space is becoming lawn, a planting bed, paving or part of another job.

The quote states the stump dimensions, grinding depth and whether visible surface roots are included. Full root excavation, underground-service detection and engineering advice are separate matters. Woodside carries out the stated stump work but does not provide land surveys.

An operator uses a guarded pedestrian stump grinder inside a coned work area.
The operator remains at the controls while the guarded cutting head passes across the stump.

Measure every part of the route

A passage between a hedge and garage can be narrower than the gate at either end. Measure the clear width at ground level and around handles, pipes and corners. Show steps, soft ground and the turn into the working area. The machine needs a practical route both in and out.

Photograph the stump with a tape across its widest point. Add the paving, fence, glass or planting beside it. Old metal, stone and buried obstacles must be identified where known. HSE guidance requires an effective exclusion area because a grinder can throw debris.

A compact stump grinder stands behind a tape measure in a narrow side passage.
The machine width is checked against the passage before it is moved towards the garden.

Record what happens after grinding

Grinding produces a mixture of wood fragments and soil. Clean-up is included, but the quote records whether the grindings remain, are used elsewhere or are taken away as part of the job. The hole and surrounding level should match the written finish rather than an assumption.

New paving, planting or landscaping is only included where it appears in the quote. For several stumps, number and photograph each one. Different access or surface conditions can change the work even when their diameters look similar.
