Crown reduction, thinning and lifting in Iver

Crown reduction shortens selected outer branches to decrease height or spread while retaining a branch framework. Crown thinning removes selected smaller growth from within the crown without changing its overall outline. Crown lifting removes or shortens lower branches for clearance. One operation should not be substituted for another simply because the wording is vague.

A useful specification states the clearance needed, the part of the crown involved and the likely final cut sizes. Heavy cutting can trigger weak regrowth and leave poor form. A measured result respects the existing branch structure and gives a clearer basis for any protected-tree application.

Iver gardens can place a mature crown above a conservatory, garden room, shed or neighbouring boundary. The clear ground may be smaller than the crown suggests. Rope positions, branch sizes and the route to the road are planned around those fixed features before cutting starts.

Photograph the entire tree from more than one side if possible. Show the rooflines, space beneath the crown and the narrowest access.
