What this service covers
Start with visible damage or a written recommendation
A snapped, split or hung-up branch needs a different response from a sound branch that simply reaches over a path. Soil lifting after high winds, sudden movement, a new crack and fresh impact damage are useful details to report. They do not prove the cause or the condition of the rest of the tree.
Oxfordshire County Council lists broken or hanging branches, cracks, stripped bark and movement around the base among visible signs worth reporting. Keep people away, photograph the problem from a safe position and describe what changed. Do not stand beneath damaged wood or pull at it.
Woodside can remove a named broken limb, clear a fallen section, provide agreed clearance or complete work listed in an existing recommendation. If you need an inspection, diagnosis or formal report, appoint an arboricultural consultant separately. We do not offer surveys, consultancy reports, formal client risk assessments or veteran-tree preservation.

Plan the controlled area and route
The work is planned around the branch or tree section named in the quote, what is below and the route out. Tell us about sheds, glass roofs, vehicles, overhead cables, neighbouring gardens and shared access. Send a whole-tree photograph and a safe view of the visible problem.
A controlled zone is needed during cutting and lowering. HSE guidance says approaches should be considered, signs or barriers used where needed, and work stopped if somebody enters the risk zone. That may mean moving furniture, closing a side passage and agreeing when residents can use a shared route.
For aerial work, HSE requires trained, competent operators, suitable protective equipment and at least two people with rescue capability available. Appropriately assigned Woodside team members are qualified for the major tree-surgery tasks they carry out. Call first when the risk is immediate
If part of a tree has fallen, is moving, blocks essential access or threatens people or property, keep everyone away and call the 24-hour emergency number. Tell us whether a road, building, vehicle or cable is involved. Contact the emergency services or utility owner for an immediate danger beyond the tree-work site. Never approach a branch touching an overhead line.
Urgent work is not automatically exempt from tree controls. A Tree Preservation Order normally requires written council consent, and conservation-area trees are also controlled. Limited exceptions for dead trees and work needed to remove an immediate risk of serious harm carry notice and evidence requirements. The owner should contact the council. Woodside does not prepare reports or manage applications.
Wild birds, their eggs and active nests are protected by law. Cutting trees and bushes can affect them, so wildlife may change the timing or extent of planned work. The owner must arrange any specialist ecology advice, survey or licence separately.
For visible storm damage, keep clear and use the 24-hour emergency call-out rather than trying to move the timber yourself.
Confirm the named work before cutting
Before cutting starts, the team confirms the named tree, agreed work, access route and area that must remain clear. The method is then matched to the branch position and what is below it. Work may need to pause if the weather changes, a protected feature is found or somebody enters the controlled zone.
Clean-up is included in every job. The quote records what happens to branches, chip and timber because those details are agreed for the individual site. We leave the agreed work area clear, but do not promise that every piece of timber is removed unless the quote says so.

Can Woodside tell me whether my tree is safe?
No. We do not provide tree surveys, diagnosis, consultancy reports or formal client risk assessments. We can carry out specified practical work for visible damage, clearance or an existing recommendation. Appoint an arboricultural consultant separately if you need an inspection or report.

Is clean-up included after the work?
Yes. Clean-up is included in every job. The quote also records what happens to branches, chip and timber because removal, chipping, stacking or leaving timber is agreed for each site.
